"Loop Lashing - safe, proven, good old-fashioned seamanship."

Approved under Timber Deck Cargo Regs: 2011 - 5.4.1

Lashing Method Comparisons

Loop Lashing

Lashings are passed over the top in opposing pairs to create a locking effect, by forming horizontal bracing elements one acting to port and one acting to starboard.

Top-Over Lashing

A friction loop passed over the top of the cargo. When the lashing is tightened it will increase frictional effect but can not prevent the cargo from racking.

Why use the Loop Lashing method?

There are 3 types of loop lashing - Upright-Fixed, Hatchcover-Fixed and Deck-Fixed. Hog lashing is incorporated in the Upright-Fixed version but needs to be added to both the Hatchcover-Fixed and Deck-Fixed versions as a seperate operation (when uprights are fitted).

The Upright-Fitted version utilises the upright as a strength component and effectively reduces the pitch between the lashings to 750mm adjacent to each upright.
